Gordon Arata welcomes Elizabeth A. McGovern to the firm as an associate attorney in the New Orleans office. McGovern earned her Juris Doctorate at Loyola University New Orleans College of Law in May 2024 and joins Gordon Arata’s team of over 40 litigation and transaction attorneys across offices in New Orleans, Lafayette, and Houston. McGovern will support senior attorneys working with clients in a range of industries, including energy and environmental, banking, chemical and industrial, construction, real estate, and telecommunications.
“I was lucky to go into law school with some perspective of what practicing law was like because my father is an attorney,” said McGovern, who worked as a summer associate at Gordon Arata in 2023. “But clerking at the firm opened my eyes to a whole different side of the field; I felt myself and my intellect growing. Plus, the people at Gordon Arata are encouraging and make coming to work every day enjoyable. I knew this was the place where I wanted to be.”
While in law school, McGovern participated in the Trial Advocacy program and served as a member of the Loyola Law Review. She is a member of Phi Delta Phi international legal fraternity. She co-founded the current chapter of the Women Law Students Association (WLSA) to Loyola during her first year of law school, serving as co-President in her second year.
McGovern gained hands-on legal experience through various summer clerkships and positions, including the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit, Arizona Legal Center, and a plaintiff’s firm assisting with personal injury and medical malpractice cases. Also, she worked on multiple political campaigns in her home state of Arizona.
